You do not need to invent your invitation wording from nothing. You need a good starting line and the confidence to make it yours. Below are full examples by register, plus the building blocks, openings, RSVP lines, closing lines, so you can mix them. Lift one, change the names, and read it aloud until it sounds like you.
Full examples by register
Formal and classic

Warm and personal
We're getting married, and we'd love you there. Anna and Daniel Saturday 14 June 2026, from 4pm Villa Serena, Florence Dinner, dancing and a long evening to follow. Please let us know by 1 May.
Relaxed and modern
Anna and Daniel are tying the knot. Come eat, drink and dance with us. 14 June 2026, 4pm Villa Serena, Florence RSVP by 1 May, the kitchen needs a headcount.
Opening lines you can borrow
- "Together with their families..."
- "With full hearts, we invite you to..."
- "We would be honoured by your company at..."
- "Two families, one very good day. Join us..."
- "It's happening. We're getting married, and you're on the list."
RSVP lines that actually get replies
The RSVP line should make replying feel easy and give a clear reason for the deadline.
- "Please reply by 1 May so we can finalise numbers."
- "Let us know by 1 May, the caterer needs a headcount."
- "Tap to RSVP inside. We'd love to know by 1 May."
- "Kindly respond by the first of May."
A clear deadline with a small human reason beats a bare "RSVP by." For the system behind collecting those replies, see how to track wedding RSVPs.
Closing lines
- "We can't wait to celebrate with you."
- "Bring your dancing shoes."
- "It won't be the same without you."
- "Love, Anna and Daniel."
Match the closing to the opening
A formal opening with a jokey closing reads as two people arguing inside one invitation. Pick a register at the top and hold it to the bottom. Consistency is what makes wording feel deliberate.
Handling the tricky bits inside the wording
A few situations need their own phrasing, and we cover each in full:
- Dress code: weave it in cleanly, see dress code wording on invitations
- Adults-only: say it kindly, see adults-only wedding wording
- Blended or co-hosting families: name everyone fairly, see wording when families are blended or both host
Adjusting for a digital invitation
These examples work on paper and on a screen, but on a phone you will want shorter lines and a clearer RSVP button. The adjustments are small but they matter, and they are in how to word a digital invitation. The full etiquette and structure sit in our wedding invitation wording guide.
